Alberta: It's not MX - but it is racing!
Columns, essays, commentaries How do you have the most fun possible when it's -20 outside with 2ft of snow on the ground? Well if you are the AMRA, you prep a dozen 125cc four strokes to factory specs, and mount them with the same street tires front and rear. Then you convince the Canadian Motorcycle Shows that using 60,000 square ft to have an INDOOR ROAD RACE TRACK at the Calgary and Edmonton shows is a great idea. Now, with a track and bikes, all you need are racers. What if the Factory Stars working for the manufacturers at the shows agreed to race against the best mini road racers in Canada? Yes, they say? Well, why not put something on the line and make it a National Championship? Game on!

Alberta: Chris Bonneau fund raiser at Lethbridge AX
Riders & Teams As many of you know I have been involved in Motocross racing for years. For as many of those years and more, a good friend of many of us has as well been involved in motorcycling in Western Canada. His name is Chris Bonneau. Chris is fighting for his life as he deals with cancer in his brain. Earlier fundraisers have helped tremendously with expenses that are escalading as the battle for survival intensifies.

We will be doing a few different things at the Alberta Arenacross Championships in Lethbridge Feb 2-3 2007 at the Enmax Centre. JC Seitz and Bart Stephenson will be teaching the riding school that Chris had booked before he knew he was going to have to make a trip for alternative treatment in Mexico. We are looking for sponsors for the students of the school. They pay $40 for their tuition. We have at this time 22 students that we are asking for a $250 sponsor per student from people that will go to Chris.

Alberta: UpShift Racing finishes strong in AOTMX series
Amateur Outdoor Motocross The Alberta Old-timer Series has come to a close after round 6 & 7 at Antler Lake, AB. Sept 23/24. The team did great once again with four riders finishing top 5 or better for the weekend. The rain hit the night before changing the freshly groomed track into a mud pit...However the sun came out and the final two motos of the season at the pro national track were perfect.

Our team had a fun year getting to know one another, friendships were developed and good times were had by all. The support each of us has for one another on and off the track proves we have the fundamentals that make a team a team. It seemed effortless for this group to get along, you would always see them cheering on their team mate and pushing them to go faster from somewhere near the track.

Alberta: Round 4 of the AOTMX Series at Extreme Raceways Alis, AB
Amateur Outdoor Motocross Round 4 of the AOTMX series was underway at Extreme Raceways in Alix, AB Aug 6th, 2006. After a long week of scattered rain across the province riders showed up to the pits muddy but the track in mint shape. Alix is one of the faster more technical tracks in this year’s series and the team felt the nerves all week as they practiced at their home track. Saturdays practice went well for the team as the nerves started to settle. Track owner Greg Martens made the event one to remeber, a lot of hard work went into preparing just for Saturdays practice, thanks Greg and family...After practice the team traveled back to Red Deer and booked into a hotel which had a great hot tub(much needed). Thanks to UpShift Clothing for the accommodations!

Alberta: Round 3 of the AOTMX series was underway at Devils Lake, AB
Amateur Outdoor Motocross Round 3 of the AOTMX series was underway at Devils Lake, AB July 2nd, 2006. The heat was a real challenge as temperatures reached 32 degrees without a cloud in the sky.

AOTMX President Gord Koll; “It's truly amazing to see the dedication to the club and the sport to ensure racer & spectator safety. Antler Lake as you know we struggled removing mud & water, Devil's Lake we couldn't get enough water on the track. Trevor started watering the track last Wednesday every day” (including race day).”The track held up well considering the heat and lack of moisture. “Over the weekend we raced, bbq'd, played volley ball, badminton, fireworks and soaked down anyone we could find with water pistols.”

Alberta: Round Two of the AOTMX Series
Amateur Outdoor Motocross Team UpShift Racing attended round two of the AOTMX Series that was underway at Antler Lake, Alberta this weekend (June 18th, 2006). After being postponed the previous weekend due to continuous rain, the event coordinators were hopeful come the following week when the sun made an appearance. The track was in mint shape mid week thanks to all the effort by the AOMTX association and members who assisted with donating their time and resources. Eager riders were on weekday countdown heading into what was to be the most anticipated event of the series. Unfortunately the skies opened up again across the province drenching the facility making the old National track nearly impossible to ride. This did not stop the record number who attendant however Saturday morning had most standing and staring at large soupy sections and rain clouds that seemed to go forever.

Alberta: Alberta’s Team Mad joins with local clothing store to build new privateer team
Riders & Teams Team Mad announces a merger with one of it’s major sponsors UpShift clothing Ltd. in Spruce Grove, AB. UpShift store owner Jodie Fyk and team manager Doug Walton have decided along with the support of the riders to change it’s name (Team Mad) to UpShift Racing. The store gears its business around supplying everything a racer or off road enthusiast needs such as high end gear, boots, helmets, and parts and accessories for most make and models of bikes. We feel this is a way we can accomplish both continued support for our team riders, and promote a business that has shown us such great support. Team Mad has been around since early 2002 and local riders and clubs have gotten to know us as one of a few privateer teams in Alberta. The team is really made up of a group of people who love to ride and travel together attending AOTMX events and CMRC sanctioned races.
